After the Labor Day conference, I was burdened to write a song. But it became too long. So, I turned it into a poem!

“All of us probably know some older brothers and sisters in Christ who are like this, either in our community or in our congregation. We have different levels of relationships with them, and we may come to value spending time with them, hearing stories from them, and serving with them. But have we been by their tents?”

It’s no wonder I didn’t think there was anyone to shepherd! Actually, if I opened my eyes to everyone around me, there were many, many people I had met in the gospel, in the church, or in life in general who needed shepherding. When I read this verse, I realized that I was looking for some perfect “lamb,” but King Solomon tells the Shulamite to care for her little “goats.”

The Shulamite’s request reveals what kind of attitude she had toward Solomon and his flock. Regarding Solomon, she was so in love. Regarding his flock, it’s like she was saying, “I’m starting to notice what you do during the day. I’m starting to take interest in your life’s work…”
