All Things Are Lawful To Me

1. All things are lawful to me,
But not all are profitable.
All things are lawful to me,
But for building, not useable.
All things are lawful to me,
But I’d not be under their power.
All things are lawful to me,
Your life regulates, hour by hour.

Chorus:
Whatever I do, whatever I say,
I’d live You, dear Lord, take You as my way.
My self put aside, in You I’d abide
For profit to all! God be glorified!

2. All things are lawful to me,
But not all things expedient.
All things are lawful to me,
But not all things are for your profit.
All things are lawful to me,
But not all things build up the church.
All things are lawful to me,
Yet we desire all for the church.

3. In all the things that I do,
Your going on must be my view.
Not thus considering self,
Your building up, I seek for you.
In all the things that I do,
I’m guarded to diligent be,
That you may be able to
Enjoy God’s grace bountifully.

1 Corinthians 6:12 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.
1 Cor. 10:23-24 All things are lawful, but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful, but not all things build up. Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.

Background: We were at Stapp’s house for morning watch. Paul’s words in 1 Cor. 6:12, and 1 Cor. 10:23-24 strongly spoke to us, placing within us a Godly fear – as we are with others, we would always have a view as to how we build, a view to what would be profitable for their going on. We can do many things, and although they may be lawful to us, they may not be for other’s profit, or for the building up the church. With such a sober realization, together we prayed that His life within us would regulate and quicken us in all that we say and do. We prayed that He would be the strongest part in us, enabling us to put ourselves aside, and not be so quick to impose what we “think”, or “know”. Lord, You bled and died for each member of Your Body, and through each one Your church is built. May we be in fear and trembling realizing that everything that we do or say may be either profitable for what will be for building up, or, it could damage Your church.
